2. Clawson

As part of the Detroit metropolitan area, Clawson takes up just over 2-square miles of land and houses 11,825 residents, referring to the Quick Facts Census webpage. Located 5.5-miles north of Detroit between Troy and Royal Oak, the efforts of volunteers and local clubs give Clawson a reputation for excellent services. This community, called the Little City with a Big Heart, hosts family oriented events year around.

The Clawson annual Christmas tree Lighting brings people together at Clawson Memorial Park each year in anticipation of the coming holiday. The evening includes Christmas carols, refreshments and a visit by Santa shortly after lighting the tree. Children get to tell Santa what they want for Christmas well before the big day in hopes the wanted gift will sit under the tree on Christmas morning.

The summer months find residents enjoying the music of local bands at the Farmer’s Market held every weekend in Clawson City Park. Fresh farm products and a variety of specialty foods make for a diverse shopping experience. Shoppers spend a day on Main Street and Fourteen Mile browsing the stores and meeting friends and family for a meal.
