If you are not a fan of yard sales, you’ll probably want to stop reading right now. Of course, provided you don’t want to learn about one of the most incredible and insane events in the entire U.S. We are talking about the 127 Yard Sale, also known as the World’s Longest Yard Sale.
This event takes place every August, starting on the first Thursday of the month and lasting for four days. During these four days, people bring out their belongings to the side of the road and sell them to passers-by. You might say that this doesn’t sound like much. That it’s your average yard sale.
Well, it’s everything but average. For one, the road in question is the Highway 127, the passers-by come in hundreds of thousands and the yard sale is actually 690 miles long this year. It runs from Gadsden, Alabama to Addison, Michigan, definitely making it one for the record books.
It goes without saying that this is a yard sale that you will want to bring your car to. In fact, it soon turns into a slow drive down (or up) the road, stopping when you see something interesting (and you will) and haggling for it (a must). It is a very special kind of event and a giant slice of real Americana.
