2. Fort Myers
Fort Myers has been a summer favorite for people from the Northeast for decades, with Thomas Edison and Henry Ford coming down during winter months to spend the cold part of the year in this special little town. This has a lot to do with the fact that its position allows for spectacular fishing all year round.
Thanks to its historic importance as a tourist destination, it features some of the best cultural facilities in the state of Florida. A-list entertainers, specialty acts and orchestras are regular guests in the town, both during and independent of the three most popular events in Fort Myers – Art Walk, ArtFest Fort Myers and Music Walk.
The city which is home to around 63,000 people also boasts a planetarium, the Imaginarium, the Calusa Nature Center and a whole range of golf courses. The city gravitates towards Sanibel and Captiva beaches and islands. These areas need no introduction and they are famous US-wide. Fort Myers truly has a ton to offer and there are good reasons why it is such a popular destination.
