2. Notre Dame de Paris
In Covington, KY, there is a cathedral constructed to approximately 1:3 scale of the original French cathedral. The facade looks familiar enough, and there are plenty of impressive stained glass windows, including one said to be the largest in the world. The interior of St. Mary’s Catholic Basilica of the Assumption is modeled after St. Denis. The interesting part of this impressive undertaking is that, even though services were first held in 1901, construction was halted in 1915, without the two planned towers. It is still unfinished today.
