It does not matter how old you are, what you do and what your family status is – you want to live in a city that is safe and where you do not have to worry about crime. Luckily for us, there are websites like SafeWise whose experts are ready to wade through mountains of data in order to find out what thesafest places to live in the United States are.
SafeWise’s people analyzed the latest crime statistics from the FBI and they combined this with their own research on cities’ public health, safety and educational facilities. In the end, they came out with a list of the 100 Safest Cities in the U.S.
We will start from the top.
According to SafeWise, the absolute safest city in the United States at the moment is Lewisboro Town, New York. The city sits on the Connecticut-New York border and it is only 50 miles from New York City. The amazing fact is that the city reported no violent crimes whatsoever in the period that was analyzed. Not a single violent crime. In a city of more than 12,000 residents. The city also reported less than 0.5 property crimes per 1,000 residents, which is also spectacular.
The second safest city in the U.S. is Wayland, Massachusetts, the town with the first public library in the state. Banking on education seems to have worked, because the town reported incredibly low crime figures. They had 0.44 violent crimes and 0.96 property crimes for every 1,000 residents.
Norfolk, Massachusetts has made it to spot No. 3 with 0.17 violent and 1.86 property crimes per 1,000 residents. The city’ government is very committed to public safety, providing education in local schools and ensuring that the city’s residents have access to all the information and help they might need.
In the fourth place, we find Washington Township, New Jersey, a city of 18,787 residents and some really low crime figures. For instance, they reported only 0.37 violent crimes per 1,000 residents, as well as under two property crimes per 1,000. The secret behind this city’s low crime figures is the Washington Township Family & Community Services / Municipal Alliance Commission which educates the community about drugs and alcohol.

The city of Broadview Heights, Ohio also confronts potential crime by strengthening the local community through a number of programs, such as the Outdoor Rock Concert Series. The city is also proud of its charity work which enables their local facilities to excel. Broadview Heights reported 1.19 violent and 1.35 property crimes per 1,000 people.
Ridgefield, Connecticut is the next city on the list, with 2.57 property crimes per 1,000 people but with only 0.04 violent crimes. The area was a battle ground in the War of Independence and it was actually considered as the potential home for the United Nations secretariat building. It is as if the UN could predict that Ridgefield would be a peaceful little town for years to come.
In spot #7, we find Upper Providence Township, Pennsylvania with a violent crimes rate of 0.19 per 1,000 residents and 2.51 property crimes per 1,000. Despite the fact that the city more than doubled in size in the last 25 years, the crime numbers didn’t go up and the residents agree that it all has to do with the feeling of community that is supported by local government.
Hopkinton, Massachusetts is in the eight spot, with low property crimes figure of 2.65 crimes per 1,000 and fantastically low violent crime figure of 0.06 per 1,000. Hopkinton made it to spot No. 78 in SafeWise’s last list, which means that it made some serious strides in the last 12 months.
Imperial, California and Campton Hills, Illinois are the two cities that round off the Top 10, thanks to violent and property crime figures that seem just silly when compared to the national median.
When one goes through the entire list, a few facts become glaringly obvious. For one, the vast majority of these cities have a population of under 25,000. Only a few of them are bigger and not by much. Also, the majority of the towns and cities are found in the Northeastern United States, with only a number of exceptions.
