The month of May is upon us and that means that Cinco de Mayo is not far away. It also means that it is time to find the best possible celebration near you, so you can enjoy some great music, even greater food and the celebration that is rivaled by none. So, where exactly should you go for the most fun?
It goes without saying that Los Angeles hosts some of the biggest and the wildest Cinco de Mayo events and this year will be no different. The fun starts towards the end of April with Fiesta Broadway and it just keeps on going with festivals and events all over the city. The biggest event of the “season” takes place around the City Hall when the city’s oldest district becomes the epicenter of fun, music and food.
Portland also hosts one of the biggest events with the Portland’s Cinco de Mayo Festival, traditionally taking place at Waterfront Park and lasting for five days. Since its establishment in 1984, the event has grown into the biggest multi-cultural celebration in the entire state of Oregon which attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.
Denver also knows how to celebrate Cinco de Mayo thanks to a large percentage of Hispanic population in the Mile High City. Denver’s celebration is one of the largest in the country with the two day Colorado fiesta which is attended by almost half a million people every year. They also have a parade which has its final stop in the Civic Center Park.
Phoenix is also a city that is worthy of your visit on Cinco de Mayo, with its city-wide celebrations that are non-stop fun, dancing and great food. The big fiesta takes place at the Patriots Square Park while the Museo Chicano proudly exhibits its collection of Mexican and Mexican-American art, history and culture.
