Coil Fest 2015 Starts Today In New York City

One of the most popular NYC events that combines performance arts, theatre and contemporary dance, the Coil fest, is back for its 10th edition and, judging from the line up, it will be the most impressive one yet.

The festival, produced as usually by PS122, will take place between January 2 and January 17 at the impressive Performance Space 122.

Ten years ago, Coil started as something a bit different than what it is today. It was originally designed as a showcase of what had been done in the world of contemporary dance in the previous year, a showcase exclusively for curators, producers and artistic directors. It grew into an open event for local audiences and artists, with the doors open for everyone to watch, enjoy and even participate in. The festival today features dance, theater, performance art, music, media and even virtual art pieces by local New York artists, but also by many other domestic and international ones.

As for the lineup, we recommend the T.E.A.M.’s Mission Drift, a musical which tackles the subject of global capitalism by combining a story about underage employees of the world’s first multinational company with the current narrative of the capitalist world.

The company Temporary Distortion will present Newyorkland, a piece that brings first-hand stories from actual NYC policemen and compares them with the traditional portrayal of police officers in pop culture.

And make sure not to miss Coil’s now-legendary series Catch, which always draws large crowds and is now back by popular demand.
