‘A Christmas Story’ House Is Back

6CgqzYq

Contractors in symbolic Santa hats are working hard to restore the Tremont neighborhood surrounding the famous house from ‘A Christmas Story’.

A Christmas Story House Foundation awarded around $60,000 in grants to help with painting, gutter replacement, porch repair, fencing and landscaping. Several of the restoration projects should be completed in October.

The home at 3159 W. 11th St. has been restored to look the same as it did in the 1983 holiday movie. Just across the street is a museum also dedicated to the movie.

The Tremont neighborhood is on the National Register of Historic Places and is one of the city’s oldest (and most famous) neighborhoods. The area around the Christmas Story house has become a popular destination for fans of the movie starring Peter Billingsley, Darren McGavin and Melinda Dillon.
