Education is one of the most important aspects of a person’s life and it is of crucial importance to get off to a good start when it comes to your academic career. Illinois is packed with excellent schools that are famous for their academic, athletic and extra-curricular activities, and in order to make it easier on you, we have compiled a list of the 20 best high schools in the state.
1. Riverside Brookfield High School (Riverside)
The annual U.S. News and World Report’s survey of top-performing high schools reports that Riverside Brookfield High School is the 20th best school in Illinois, earning the position because of its competent aptitude testing and accessibility to Advanced Placement coursework.
The survey found that the students of Riverside Brookfield showed a much higher proficiency rating (75%) in both reading and mathematics than the state average, which is one of the main reasons why the school is regarded as one of the leading schools in Illinois.
On top of it all, almost 20% of the students whose reading skills were tested displayed superior abilities, while 10% of those measured in mathematics demonstrated supreme knowledge. Moreover, students of Riverside Brookfield achieved better scores on state proficiency exams than students from many other Illinois schools, with a 20% gap in results between the school’s disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged students. These results are, yet again, above average.
When speaking of the school’s Advanced Placement coursework, the top-notch program is designed to help students prepare for both college demands and annual AP exams, the latter earning them valuable college level credits.
