If you cannot make the trip to original iconic monuments around the globe, there are alternative ways to experience the wonder, beauty and history of many of the world’s most popular attractions. In some cases, the stories behind the recreated monuments are as interesting as the originals.
1. Eiffel Tower, Paris
The classic iron grillwork and graceful form of the entrance arch at the 1889 World’s Fair has stood its ground in the Champ de Mars to become the most visited monument in the world. No fewer than 18 other towers have taken its form as inspiration, among them the Torre Eiffel at Gomez Palacio in Durango, Mexico, a 1:6 scale reproduction, and the Eiffel Tower of Window of the World in Shenzhen, China, at 1:3 scale.
