21 Worst Cities For Gays

While many countries around the world are legalizing gay marriages and trying to put an end to discrimination based on sexual orientation, there are still many places in the world that are still do not accept gay people as first class citizens. There are some cities around the world, particularly in the Middle East, where being gay could cost you your life.

Here is a list of the 21 cities of the world that are most hostile towards gay people.

1. Tehran, Iran

This one was probably everyone’s bet. The war-torn country has so many problems with social justice and civil rights you don’t even know where to begin. Basically zero rights to women, zero religious freedom, super-strict laws and even stricter punishment that ranges from public humiliation and corporal punishment to death penalty – Iran is the place where you pray to God you don’t do anything “wrong.”

And one of the worst things you can do in Tehran is to be gay. There is no being gay in Iran. If you are an LGBT person, you need to do everything in your powers to conceal it, otherwise you will hang. And we mean literally – you will be hanged. To make things worse, an official whose job is to improve human rights in Iran said that homosexuality is an illness that needs to be cured. So you know there is no hope for gay people over there any time soon.
